As for your time investment, it takes on average four months to a year to earn a Private Pilots License, but of course, you can take more or less time. At Babcock Central Flying Academy , you truly do it all on your own terms, at your own pace. Training is worked into your schedule so you can fly early morning or late in the evening, midday or on the weekends – whatever works best for you.

To Become a Pilot:

		You must be at least 17 for a Student Pilot Licence (enabling you to go solo) and Private Pilot Licence. There is no maximum age limit.
		You must be able to read, speak and understand English.
		You must take a Civil Aviation Association (CAA) required routine medical exam every two years (annually after 40 years of age) to ensure that you don't have medical conditions that would interfere with your ability to fly.

Contrary to popular belief, pilots can wear glasses or contact lenses to correct vision. And other physical limitations don't automatically keep you from learning to fly either.

In the air you'll earn your wings through personal instruction in the cockpit. The CAA (Central Aviation Authority) requires you to have a minimum of 40 hours flying time before applying for a license (45 hours as from 1 January 2008 ). Those hours include time behind the controls with and without your instructor and a couple of cross country flights.

Relax. You can do it. The Cessna aircraft you will train in are extremely stable and very forgiving. And all our aircraft are meticulously maintained to ensure the utmost safety and top performance.

At the end of the program, you will take the CAA written exams in our approved CAA testing Centre and a flying test. During ground school and flight training, you will become well prepared for these milestones with a series of trial runs.
